Job Summary

The Department of Social Sciences invites applications for a LEO Lecturer I, non-tenure-track appointment which begins January 1, 2025 through April 30, 2025 for the Winter 2025 term. Contractual full-time rate per term is $25,500; term salary is dependent on number of courses taught and course effort percentage. The successful candidate will be comfortable teaching in a variety of modalities for the following Economics Course: 

ECON 390N Economics of Cars at 25% - 33.33% effort (currently a 3-credit course but could be modified to a 4-credit course)

This course meets in person on Wednesdays 6:00-8:45 pm. (If a course is modified to 4 credits, the additional credit will be expected to be covered online). 

This is an upper-level undergraduate course. 

How has the history and structure of the auto industry affected technology, trade, the shape of our cities, or our regional and national economies? What are the implications of a car-centric transportation system for the environment, energy consumption, safety, or social exclusion? Can a global pandemic affect our mobility systems well into the future? These are some of the questions explored in this course where we examine relevant economics research and engage with practice-based learning projects. In this course we will focus on economic analysis and its policy implications. Course prerequisite: ECON 201 or ECON 202. 

This is a one-semester non-tenured LEO Lecturer I Appointment, with no presumption of renewal. The Winter 2025 semester is January 1, 2025 through April 30, 2025.

Responsibilities*

This is an instructional position. Duties include the preparation of lectures and other classroom activities, development of assignments such as exams and papers, evaluation of students? coursework, holding office hours and communicating with students in Economics of Cars throughout the semester.  UM-Dearborn uses the Canvas course management software, and the instructor will be expected to assemble and maintain a Canvas site for Economics of Cars.

Required Qualifications*

At a minimum, candidates should hold a masters degree with a focus on economics, public policy or business. 

Significant and recent professional experience performing research and/or analysis of the automotive industry from an economics and business perspective   

Desired Qualifications*

• Candidates holding (or expected to earn within a year) a PhD in economics, public policy or business.
• Experience in a senior-level, managerial or policy-related position in the automotive industry.
• Experience in teaching/training in an academic setting.
