Ecologist II or III (Level will DOE)
Where will you work: The successful candidate can work out of our FishHawk office or North Pasture office. This position will cover our South Pasture and South Ft Meade mining locations. In this role you will enjoy a flexible hybrid work schedule. You will also, be eligible to work a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.
We’re looking for an Ecologist to join our team at the South Pasture and South Fort Meade Mine locations. In this role, you’ll provide technical expertise and lead various biological and ecological processes essential for mine reclamation, operations, and permitting. Your responsibilities will include managing wetlands mapping, assessments, report writing, monitoring activities, and overseeing contractors. You’ll also have the opportunity to interact with regulatory agencies for site inspections and communications. What you’ll do:
Organize field-based and data management/report writing activities
Manage field projects and ecological administrative tasks
Develop land management strategies for habitat creation and restoration projects
Inspect and monitor pre- and post-mining habitats for various permit compliance criteria
Prepare and review technical and annual reports
Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures
Interact with regulatory agencies for site inspections and communications
Assist in budget estimations and manage project budgets
Serve as an ecological advisor for public outreach projects
Direct or assist contractors for reclamation projects and permitting support
Set contractor goals for safety and audit contractors
Develop or monitor contractor budgets
Track and stay current on regulatory rules and requirements
Set goals and prioritize wildlife management and relocation efforts
Develop, support, or assist with permit applications and inspections
Technical advisor for permitting inspections and attend public hearings
Ecologist II
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Biology, Chemistry, Ecology, Geology/Geography, or equivalent.
3+ years of experience with biological and ecological assessments for permits, regulatory approvals and agencies
Or 1+ yrs with master’s degree
Ecologist III
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Biology, Chemistry, Ecology, Geology/Geography, or equivalent.
5+ years of experience with biological and ecological assessments for permits, regulatory approvals and manage large scale environmental projects
Or 3+ yrs with master’s degree
Required for ALL Levels:
Proficiency with MS Office products, ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD, or other related
Excellent presentation skills
Ability to create effective partnerships at all levels of the organization
Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills
Solid business acumen
Ability to adapt to a continually changing business and work environment
Ability to work outdoors in physically demanding conditions
Preferred for ALL Levels:
Certification such as: Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP), Certified Ecologist, Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), Authorized Gopher Agent, Drone Pilot, Herbicide Applicator License
Experience with regulatory agencies negotiating and interpreting permit criteria
Manage large scale ecological/restoration projects including development of management strategies, contracts, vendors, and budgets
Experience with biological and ecological assessments for environmental permits
SAP Business Applications experience a plus
