The Associate Producer, HowlRound position reports to the Creative Producer and will support the daily internal and external operations and programs of the HowlRound Theatre Commons. In addition, this role will provide producing support for all of HowlRound’s programs, including, but not limited to, the Journal, HowlRound TV, the National Playwright Residency Program, in-person convenings, and the Advisory Council. This is an important role that will help shape the trajectory of HowlRound and its work, and requires a driven, detail-oriented collaborator.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Administer the day-to-day operations of HowlRound, processing payments, facilitating meetings, and connecting with external vendors and HowlRound contributors.
  • Support the HowlRound journal through managing communications with contributors to the HowlRound platform.
  • Support the management of the National Playwright Residency Program.
  • Support HowlRound TV through live streaming and outreach.
  • Serve as primary liaison with the HowlRound Theatre Commons Advisory Council.
  • Coordinate supplier contracts and payments.
  • Hire, train, and manage staff and student employees.
  • Facilitate, plan, and participate in internal and external meetings as necessary to achieve the organization's goals.
  • Lead and participate in special projects and programming to meet program goals, including, but not limited to, writing RFPs, conference planning, and managing the NPRP residency.
  • Purchase equipment as necessary.
  • Maintain records and complete all necessary administrative work.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform the job.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required
  • 3-5 years of experience in the arts or not-for-profit sector required, including experience producing theatre, conferences, and/or other live events
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES – This may be representative but not all-inclusive of the knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.

  • Working knowledge of and/or deep appreciation for the transformative power of theatre and performance
  • Confident public speaking and meeting facilitation skills
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to edit content
  • Proficiency in using computer software and the ability to learn new software easily
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow through on tasks and requests
  • Ability to manage and maintain multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize tasks
  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills

  • Repetitive movements, occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds, reaching, lifting, stooping, and the ability to read a computer screen, detect color-coding, and read fine print will be expected.

WORK LOCATION

This position is primarily a hybrid role with expected days in the office each week.


The hybrid arrangement will be made upon hire. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the Boston campus to ensure operational effectiveness. This arrangement must be approved as outlined in the Remote Work Policy.

Compensation: $52,000.00 - $62,450.00 annually, commensurate with experience.

Grade of Position: 23-06E

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25
