The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania are accepting candidates for the position of Division Chief of General Anesthesiology.
We are looking for a board-certified pediatric anesthesiology expert to lead one of the nation's largest and most academically productive pediatric anesthesia divisions. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a complex, multi-site division with diverse clinical programs. Key responsibilities include overseeing personnel, managing clinical operations, and leading the division in achieving the Department's tripartite mission of excellence in clinical care, education, and research.
Division Overview:
The Division of General Anesthesiology is in a phase of dynamic growth and expansion. It is currently composed of:
- Over 60 faculty members with a broad range of clinical, educational, and scholarly interests.
- 30 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs).
- 11 fellows.
- 14 Administrative Staff
The Division supports numerous clinical programs providing over 45,000 anesthetics annually, including fetal-maternal anesthesia, acute and chronic pain management, neuroanesthesia, and proton therapy. With support from the Anesthesia Resource Center, the Division staffs more than 40 clinical sites daily across various CHOP locations, including:
- The main operating room
- Special Delivery Unit
- Oncology Clinic
- Gastroenterology Suite
- Sedation Unit
- Interventional Radiology
- MRI and Proton Therapy units
- Four ambulatory surgery center
Research and Scholarship:
The Division Chief will play a pivotal role in advancing the Division's research and academic missions. Responsibilities include:
- Developing and fostering collaborative research programs.
- Managing infrastructure to support ongoing research efforts.
- Allocating academic time and resources.
- Supporting and fostering funded research within the Division and across the Department
The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine maintains a robust, well-funded research enterprise, encompassing basic science, translational, clinical, and health services research programs that span all areas of anesthesiology and critical care medicine.
Leadership Responsibilities:
The Division Chief will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and will work closely with other Division Chiefs, Associate Chairs, and the Vice Chair. The Division Chief will:
- Oversee the Division's clinical, research, and educational activities.
- Lead faculty and staff recruitment efforts.
- Provide career development and mentoring for all Division faculty and fellows.
- Conduct annual performance reviews for Division Faculty
Education Qualifications
- Doctorate Medicine (MD) or Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Required
Licenses and Certifications
- Medical License - in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and any states practicing in - upon hire - Required and
- Board Certification - Medical Sub/Specialty - - upon hire - Required and
- DEA License - - upon hire - Required
