What You'll Do

As Career Development Manager for the West Coast system, you will partner closely with the CD Senior Manager to deliver an excellent Career Development (CD) experience to our Consulting Team (CT) staff and CD stakeholders. Career Development encompasses the core performance management processes for our Consulting Team, including project-based downward feedback; upward feedback for team managers; twice-yearly holistic assessment by the Career Development Committee (CDC); the Feedback Foundations experience enabling a development-focused start for new Associates and Consultants; and enablement of CD Advisors and team leaders to deliver rich ongoing developmental conversations and experiences throughout the BCG journey.

This includes key responsibilities across several buckets of day-to-day activities, including:

  • CDC meeting preparation and management, e.g.,
    • Own end-to-end process management of assigned CDC(s) - at first under direction of CD Senior Manager, with quickly increasing independence
    • Oversee meeting readiness and communicate with CT and CD Advisors to ensure key pre-meeting tasks are completed to standards of quality and timeliness
    • Contribute to CDC meeting discussion, e.g., on questions of policy, precedent, best practice
    • Ensure post-meeting outcomes and updates are captured
    • Over time recognize themes and patterns across profiles and cohorts
  • Management of downward and upward feedback, e.g.,
    • Hold CT and CD Advisors accountable to standards of timeliness and quality
    • Act as source of truth on review process-related questions
  • Support and enablement of local CD leadership (CD Chair, OC, CD Advisors, Talent Managers), e.g.,
    • Organizing and contributing to pre-meeting deep-dive discussions and post-meeting debriefs
    • Overseeing assignments of CD Advisors to CT staff within assigned cohorts
    • Contributing information and insights to Talent team check-ins on timely topics
  • Communications to office/system CT staff, e.g.,
    • Co-facilitating onboarding sessions, trainings, and cohort meetings
    • Drafting communications to local CT on timely topics and updates
  • Other ongoing support, e.g.,
    • Delivering local strategic initiatives
    • Supporting year-end bonus process
    • Sharing best practices with peers throughout NAMR on regular regional CD touchpoints

You're Good At

  • High level attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks
  • Operating independently and taking full ownership of processes from end-to-end
  • Engendering trust and respect from highly senior stakeholders
  • Keeping organized and outcome-oriented amidst a high volume of information and communication
  • Collaborating closely with others within a team and across other functions
  • Writing clear and effective communications to a variety of audiences
  • Applying guiding principles to nuanced situations
  • Working fluently in details while keeping an eye toward the big picture
  • Staying flexible and shifting gears quickly as priorities change
  • Embracing technology and adapting to new ways of working
  • Acting upon feedback to continue your own development
  • Maintaining utmost integrity around confidentiality and adherence to policies

What You'll Bring

  • BA/BS degree required with 5+ years related work experience
  • Prior experience at BCG or another management consulting firm highly preferred
  • Experience in a People-related role highly preferred
