    Job Summary

    Information and Technology Services (ITS) has an exciting opportunity to employ a Video Project Technologist to help plan, install, and operate audiovisual systems, television infrastructure, and DOCSIS data networks at the University of Michigan.

    This position will report to the Communications Systems Operation Manager in the ITS Infrastructure organization. The ITS Infrastructure Video Services team ensures integrity, reliability, and performance of video and data services for departments across campus.

    This role requires someone who is independent, proactively anticipates and resolves problems, has experience in a role providing excellent customer service, has the ability to follow documented procedures and standards in a consistent manner, and has the passion to meet or exceed customer expectations.

    As a Video Project Technologist for ITS Infrastructure at the University of Michigan, your position's key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Troubleshoot issues with deployed AV systems and manage trouble tickets to resolutions. This might involve resolving networking issues, diagnosing and replacing failed hardware, adjusting configurations, and addressing mounting and esthetics.
    • Assist with the design of AV systems, including hardware selection, cabling requirements, physical installation specifications, and configuration details.
    • Occasionally install new audiovisual systems, including installing wall mounts and LCD displays; mounting and connecting AV components; and performing performance checks.
    • Research solutions for meeting new AV requirements.
    • Evaluate and perform testing of proposed new AV hardware.
    • Develop knowledge about advanced audio solutions and the deployment, configuration and troubleshooting of microphones and digital signal processors.
    • Develop knowledge about the use of network switches in supporting complex AV installations.
    • Become knowledgeable about the university's cable television and DOCSIS networks and serve as backup field technician in resolving trouble tickets.
    • Assist with the design of any required system integration efforts required for video systems implementation.
    • Operate various RF, IP, video and optical test equipment to identify problems end to end in the network.
    • Perform installation and maintenance of equipment required to deliver video services end to end for cable television customers.
    • Performs duties necessary to insure maximum operating efficiencies of UMTV's facilities on a 24/7 basis and in a manner consistent with policies, ITS procedures, quality standards and all applicable local, state and federal regulations.
    • Provide support for video streaming services.
    • Support the refinement of cable TV and audiovisual operations for more efficient processes and procedures. Identify when established procedures are not working well and there are gaps in processes.

    Required Qualifications*

    • Associate's degree in electronics or an equivalent combination of education and telecommunication experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience with AV system support, integration, and design.
    • Strong practical experience installing and troubleshooting LCD displays, video codecs, HDBaseT transmitters and receivers, audio amplifiers, speakers, and microphone systems.
    • Experience with troubleshooting data networks.
    • Good verbal, written, interpersonal and customer skills.
    • Ability to move and transport objects with weight up to 60 lbs.

    Desired Qualifications*

    • AVIXA CTS certification.
    • Experience with Poly-brand Zoom Room equipment.
    • Experience with Shure Microflex products.
    • Experience in testing, repairing and maintaining CATV voice, video and data DOCSIS systems.
    • Some experience in DOCSIS related networking protocols including DHCP, TFTP, SNMP, IPDR, IPv4, IPv6, Ethernet: cable modem configuration and provisioning.
    • Some experience in repairing telecommunication equipment and a basic knowledge of, and some experience with, various telecommunications test equipment (digital volt meters, BERT testers, fiber optic meters, spectrum analyzers, FSM and RF leakage detectors.
    • Experience working with transmission facilities and protocols (copper, fiber, coax).
    • Experience in maintaining and repairing digital voice, video and data DOCSIS systems.
    • Familiarity with or willingness to learn cellular and WiFi RF systems, e.g. DAS, small cell, BDA, LMR, WiFi radios.

    Additional Information

    • May require working during non-business hours and on weekends
    • Valid driver's license with less than 7 points.
    • Periodic transporting and moving of equipment weighing up to 60 pounds by self or weighing up to 120
