Full Job Description

Position Overview: The Vice President of Communications and Marketing (VPCM) is pivotal in advancing the effectiveness of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. The VPCM will develop and execute comprehensive communications and marketing strategies to bolster the Foundation's mission of enhancing equitable access to opportunities across southeast Michigan. This role requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record in communications and marketing, a strong grasp of AI and data analytics, and the ability to drive innovation within a dynamic team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership and Vision: The VPCM will lead the charge in shaping the Foundation's communication and marketing strategies. They will craft a comprehensive plan that aligns with the Foundation's goals and aspirations, ensuring that every strategy is tailored to resonate with essential stakeholders such as the Board of Trustees, donors, community leaders, grantees, and media. By harnessing AI and data analytics, the VPCM will refine outreach efforts and enhance brand awareness, while also steering media planning and execution to maximize the Foundation's impact.

  • Strategic Marketing Campaigns: The VPCM will oversee the creation and implementation of compelling campaigns that align with the Foundation's goals and enhances its awareness, visibility, engagement and donor support. The campaigns will be data-driven insights, adjusting strategies as necessary to achieve desired outcomes. Targeted messaging through donor-specific content, materials, digital and traditional media buys, sponsorships and events will support fundraising efforts.

  • Brand Storytelling and Evolution: The VPCM will be the steward of the Foundation's brand, ensuring its consistency and relevance in a rapidly changing landscape. They will champion the creation of compelling narratives across various platforms-digital, print, and broadcast-to engage and inspire. Additionally, the VPCM will craft and implement strategies for crisis communications and internal messaging, ensuring that the Foundation's voice remains clear and cohesive.

  • Team Leadership and Innovation: Leading a dynamic Communications & Marketing team, the VPCM will cultivate a culture of creativity and experimentation. They will guide their team through the execution of innovative strategies and new technologies, fostering an environment where fresh ideas can thrive and drive the Foundation's mission forward.

  • Digital and Print Strategy: The VPCM will oversee the Foundation's digital presence, including its website and social media channels, ensuring content is current, engaging, and impactful. They will also supervise the production of vital publications, such as annual reports, newsletters, and other collateral materials, ensuring these resources effectively communicate the Foundation's achievements and goals.

  • External Relations and Media Engagement: Acting as the Foundation's ambassador, the VPCM will handle media inquiries and build strong relationships with local media outlets. They will oversee media and advertising strategies to secure positive coverage and enhance the Foundation's public profile, stepping in as a spokesperson when necessary.

  • Internal Communication and Education: Ensuring that all employees are well-informed about the Foundation's objectives and messages will be a priority for the VPCM. They will facilitate training on best practices in communications and foster a culture of cross-departmental collaboration and understanding.

  • Resource Management and Organizational Capacity: The VPCM will manage the communications and marketing budget with an eye towards maximizing impact and efficiency. They will also partner with local contractors and national PR/marketing agencies as needed, ensuring that all resources are used effectively to advance the Foundation's mission.

  • Marketing: The VPCM will develop and implement an integrated strategic marketing plan that builds the Foundation's brand and broadens awareness of the organization to donors and other stakeholders. They will use consumer insights to attract donors to the brand and lead marketing initiatives through collaboration and innovation.

  4. Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and analytical communication skills tailored to various audiences, including board members, donors, public officials, and the media.
  5. Relationship Building: Ability to build trusted relationships and effectively represent the Foundation in various settings.
  6. Adaptability and Resilience: Ability to thrive under pressure, adapt to changing circumstances, and manage multiple priorities.
  7. Ethical Standards: Commitment to the highest standards of ethics and integrity in all professional activities.
  8. Political Savvy: Ability to maneuver through complex political situations effectively and quietly; brings sensitivity and discernment to how people and organizations function and anticipates where land mines are; adjusting approach accordingly.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years of senior-level experience in communications and marketing within a foundation, large nonprofit, private company, or public agency; 10-15 years of experience in communications and/or marketing
  • Proven success in designing and implementing strategic communications and marketing initiatives.
  • Experience with AI-driven marketing strategies and scalable narrative change.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required; graduate degree preferred.


Compensation details: 160000-200000 Yearly Salary
