Summary:
The Trauma Program Registrar (TPR) is responsible for abstracting charts and entering data into the Statewide Trauma Registry and the National Trauma Data Bank. The TPR ensures the data is complete, up to date and entered in the time frames required by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Services and the American College of Surgeons. The TPR works under the direction of the Trauma Coordinator (TC) and closely with the Trauma Medical Director (TMD) to disseminate data and generate reports for presentation to the appropriate trauma care committees.


Responsibilities:
• Completes timely and accurate data abstraction from the electronic health record and enters it into the trauma registry. Demonstrates the ability to identify patients who meet criteria to be entered into the trauma registry. Ensures system is in place to monitor validity of data.
• Collaborates in the development of database dashboards, monthly reports and power point presentations. Analyzes registry data and disseminates information. Prepares reports and presentations for designation surveys and other meetings as needed.
• Assists the Trauma Coordinator and the Trauma Medical Director in the development of meeting agendas and distributes designated meeting materials prior to meeting. Coordinates and schedules assigned meetings, prepares accurate and timely minutes and performs duties related to meeting follow-up.
• Participates and assists with community outreach as needed. Assists with development of education resources and presentations at the request of the Trauma Coordinator or Trauma Medical Director. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Hired applicants will be expected to complete the American Trauma Society’s Trauma Registrar Course and the Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine’s Injury Scaling Course within 6 months of hire.

Required
• Associates Degree in an Allied Health Field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years’ experience with abstracting/interpreting medical information.
• Formal education in medical terminology / medical coding
• Proficiency with spreadsheet tools and or database tools, to include data structuring, analysis, and visualization
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred
• Experience working in a clinical capacity
