The role:
Bring your customer service skills to the North Portland DMV as a transportation services representative. In this role, you will assist the public with obtaining a driver license, registering vehicles and issuing permits and license plates. In addition, you will administer knowledge, skill and vision tests to potential drivers and provide information about regulations and policies. A day in the life:

• Help the public register vehicles and apply for permits.

• Provide exceptional customer service while following privacy laws.

• Communicate clearly with customers from diverse backgrounds to accurately answer complex questions.

• Produce photo licenses, instruction permits and identification cards.

• Administer, correct and explain driver license tests.

• Conduct and interpret results of driver vision tests.

• Perform physical examinations of vehicles and verify vehicle identification numbers.

• Prepare daily bank deposits and count inventory.

• Occasionally perform relief work in other DMV offices within the region.

• May require standing for extended periods of time, working in inclement weather, working an irregular schedule and lifting up to 40 pounds.

Minimum qualifications:

Two years of public contact/customer service experience which involved dealing with the public in person or by phone providing information about services/programs or explaining and/or applying rules, regulations and procedures;

AND

Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data;

AND

Three months experience collecting money and making change.

Completion of an associate’s degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.

Special qualifications:
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
