Summary:

The Bilingual Speech Pathologist will have the education, knowledge and skill to provide in-patient, out-patient, and/or neighborhood clinic services, focusing on functional skills to enhance development, restore function and to prevent disability from pediatric conditions, illness and injury with English and Spanish proficiency within an episodic care model. They will utilize protocols, pathways, and evidence based clinical tools, to provide recommendations inclusive of appropriate model of care and episode of care as approved by the primary care physician. Provision of direct patient care services, as needed, include screening, assessment, evaluation, treatment and home programming for children with feeding and swallowing disorders, articulation, voice, resonance, fluency, receptive/expressive language disorders, hearing loss, and the need for AAC devices. The position will also include patient and caregiver education and training. The Bilingual Speech Pathologist will engage in direct consultation and collaboration with physicians, nurses, other professionals, clinics and agencies, both within Cook Children's Health Care System and within the community. Documentation and correspondence pertaining to these services will follow department and system policies.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree required in speech/language pathology, communication disorders, or related

  • Pediatric experience preferred

  • Understands broad cultural aspects of native Spanish speaking families; ability to relate to diverse cultural and ethnic population

  • Must meet Spanish proficiency levels defined by Cook Children's Health Care System and measured by objective and nationally recognized oral language, reading and writing tests

  • CPR - BLS within 30 days of employment

  • State license or eligible for state licensure

  • Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech/Language Pathology, or eligible for application upon completion of Clinical Fellowship Year and must be obtained within 12 months of hire to maintain employment at Cook Children's
