The Opportunity

This is a 12-week internship with start dates beginning in May through June 2025, depending on your availability. Nutanix offers both remote and hybrid internships where you would work from the San Jose, CA, office 2-3 days/week. Submit your application by October 4, 2024.

About the Team

• DevEx is a team based in India and the U.S., responsible for enabling new platforms and servers for various vendors, excluding Nutanix. Their core focus is on integrating platforms like HP, Dell, and Lenovo with Nutanix software. Additionally, they collaborate with the support and DevEx engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues on non-partner platforms. They handle customer-facing calls to triage and address problems, both for customers and internally.
• They conduct proofs of concept for customers and work on optimizing and scaling operations by developing new tools. For instance, last year, a developer in India created a server validation tool to assist with BOM validation. The goal is to make this tool enterprise-ready for use by customers, partners, and solution architects.
• The intern hired to this team will gain exposure to various hardware platforms and vendors, understanding the differences in architecture and technology. While they will become well-rounded with broad knowledge across multiple areas, the expectation is for them to specialize in one area, such as virtualization, storage, or networking, along with programming experience. They'll work on new hardware technologies, see how their code performs in the field, and be capable of fixing issues as they arise-a mix of programming skills and deep, broad knowledge across various domains.

Your Role

• Work closely with technical staff/leaders to design and create design documents.
• Depending on the team you're assigned, generate code that enhances product features and increases the speed and efficiency of the functionality of products.
• Work with a mentor to define project scopes and critical results
• Stay associated with your manager and peers through regular meetings and Slack chats.
• Our interns work across a range of teams and projects spanning a variety of technology areas, including, but not limited to:
  • Hypervisors built from open-source technologies
  • Complete multi-cloud and hybrid-cloud engines
  • Database services
  • Virtual machine life-cycle management
  • System design
  • Distributed systems, distributed storage, and platform deployment
  • Linux kernel development
  • Low-level programming
  • Backend systems programming
  • Performance and scale of storage systems and more!

What You Will Bring

• You are pursuing a Bachelor's in Computer Science or a related field.
• You have taken one or more courses in the areas of Operating/Distributed/Database Systems, Parallel Programming/Computing, or the Fundamentals of Computer Architecture.
• You are proficient in one or more of the following backend programming languages: C, C++, Python, Java, and Golang.
• Exposure to or projects related to one or more of the following systems: Cloud Infrastructure, Database Systems, File Systems, Object Storage Systems, Distributed Storage, or Open Source Frameworks

  • Students who advance to this round will receive preparation and details on any pre-assignments to complete prior to October 23.
  • Students attending the second round should expect multiple interviews with Nutanix engineers designed to assess your technical skills and role readiness, motivation for the opportunity at Nutanix, and, when required, a pre-assignment aligned to the role you'll be playing on our team. Each meeting will offer you an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the team you'll potentially work with.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $ 30 and USD $ 49 per hour.

However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
