As a Senior Physicist you are expected to develop and evaluate new design concepts, support execution of detailed design, rapidly resolve technical challenges in production, and support the development of detector technology roadmaps. The position requires interdisciplinary and cross-functional collaboration on one or more small teams in a fast-paced product development environment.

As a Senior Nuclear Physicist, you will be responsible for;

  • Working as an integral member of a multidisciplinary technology development team focused on sensor technology, in particular radiation detection.
  • Applying knowledge and skills to advise on nuclear physics aspects of detector design, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Providing guidance on development of nuclear detector test processes.
  • Providing guidance to project teams concerning the evaluation of advanced physics concepts.
  • Working with a wide variety of colleagues with varying backgrounds across Reuter-Stokes and Baker Hughes on multi-physics research to solve difficult problems.
  • Developing, set-up and safely conduct experimentation/tests on conceptual & prototype radiation sensor systems.
  • Establishing robust physics-based analysis and qualification processes that leverage in-house as well as outside capabilities. This includes insuring we have access to appropriate and up-to-date analytical equipment and associated qualified personnel.
  • Documenting work products in written form, e.g. technical notes, design specifications, journal publications.
  • Presenting work achievements to the team, and when appropriate to the scientific community at technical conferences
  • Providing physics support for all existing Reuter-Stokes' product lines
  • Interface with physics peers within the broader Baker Hughes community to leverage and establish best practices.

Fuel your passion

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a bachelor's degree in physics or nuclear engineering or any other related field.
  • Have at least a master's degree in physics or Nuclear Engineering.
  • Have a minimum of 10 years of technical work experience or a combination of master's degree and work experience.
  • Have technical experience in nuclear physics, solid state physics, optics, radiation detection is highly desirable.
  • Success with basic and applied research to support new radiation detector development.
  • Have experience with a formal problem-solving methodology such as Shainin, Six Sigma, or TapRoot is preferred.
  • Have extensive experience with nuclear testing and analysis techniques.
  • Have experience with computational modelling tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, ZEMAX, MCNP, GEANT4, and Garfield++ (cloud hosted supercomputing preferred).
  • Strong analytical and experimental skillset.
