Position Details:

Position Emphasis: This position supports the NEA strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3 million members toward the promotion of public education by developing practices, policies, and training intended to support people who come from varying backgrounds and give them the resources they need to thrive in the workplace.

Position Summary: The primary focus of the position will support building a sustainable diversity, equity and inclusion strategy through a focus on an internal workplace culture that embraces and promotes an inclusive work environment whereby employees can be themselves, are valued for their differences and are supported to work at their best. The primary responsibilities include:

  • Writing and distributing surveys, requests, and questionnaires. Then compiling the data from those resources and analyzing it to deliver reports to their supervisor in the HR Department, and C-suite stakeholders.
  • Leading and supporting DEIA committees and/or workgroups to connect and evaluate their needs from the organization by ensuring they have the proper resources and helps them to plan and meet their objectives.
  • Designing and delivering DEIA educational/learning resources and materials and providing training on policies and procedures that support DEIA initiatives.
  • Engaging in ongoing research and training to support the implementation of DEIA best practices including collaborating with HR and hiring managers on inclusive hiring practices.
  • Partnering with external DEIA organizations.
  • Drafting metrics for DEIA progress. Building and maintaining systems to track, measure, and report on diversity initiatives and programs.
  • Organizing DEIA events and conducting training sessions and workshops for employees, managers, and their teams.
  • Coordinating with Office of General Counsel on compliance issues related to DEIA.
  • Providing crisis management support related to DEIA issues.
  • Serving as HR liaison and coordinator for NEA all-staff meetings.
  • Collaborating with other HR professionals to address DEIA issues as well as working closely with stakeholders to ensure DEIA consistency across operations.
  • Analyzing data to identify opportunities to address organizational DEIA needs.
  • Integrating DEIA principles into all levels of the organization.
  • Developing and implementing actions plans to address identified barriers.
  • Planning, developing, facilitating, coordinating, and evaluating employee training programs.

Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired.Minimum Qualifications: Three years of professional experience in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility. Two years of professional experience in conceptualizing, developing, and delivering training for adults. Experience must include designing a variety of training programs and developing related curricula and training materials, designing, and implementing organizational development strategies. Other Requirements: Analytical ability, sound judgment, strong communication abilities in writing as well as orally; ability to think both logically and creatively, a business-focused approach, high degree of organization and a commitment to continuous learning; ability to facilitate and guide meetings; ability to interact with staff at all levels of the organization. Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Selection Criteria: Tier 1 (Essential): Subject matter expertise in the field of diversity, equity and inclusion principles and best practices. Knowledge of design and implementation of organizational development strategies. Proven ability to plan, organize and coordinate projects and events. Demonstrated high-level analytical, interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively with individuals. Proven flexibility and effectiveness in handling multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities/conditions. High-level problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. Demonstrated presentation, training, facilitation, coaching, consultation, and group process skills. Successful references. Tier 2 (Significant): Strong project management and organization skills. Demonstrated ability to gather, analyze and report information. Ability to lead, plan, organize and conduct team efforts. Tier 3 (Desirable): Experience working for an association or membership organization. Experience working in a union environment. Master’s degree in human resources, DEI graduate certificate program and/or organization development. Knowledge of the mission and programs of the National Education Association (NEA).
