Are you interested in the energy industry and energy efficiency? Do you have a background in social sciences, engineering, or natural sciences? Are you passionate about sustainability and the environment?
E Source is adding a data intern who meets these criteria to our Customer Energy Solutions team. Our data interns will have the opportunity to learn how utilities promote energy efficiency and reduce peak load—called demand-side management (DSM)—while helping to keep our industry-leading data tools up to date. We’ll also ask you to help with our research projects, so the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate their research and data-collection skills.
At E Source, our passion for sustainability and energy efficiency is not just our work, it’s our mission. We are a client-focused team that provides software solutions, research, advisory, management consulting, and implementation services to electric, gas, and water utilities. Our goal is to increase the effectiveness of their energy efficiency and sustainability programs, and to speed their transition to a low-carbon economy. We help our clients evolve into customer-centric organizations that make data-driven decisions to drive their operations, customer programs, and customer relationships. And we like to have fun while we do it!
Here are the values we live by at E Source:

What you’ll do
- After receiving training, work independently to update and populate our data tools with thorough and accurate information.
- Assist with research requests from clients and other E Source teams, as well as with reports and webinars.
- Organize and evaluate information and refine and interpret data.
What will make you a good fit
- A current undergraduate student or recent graduate, ideally pursuing a degree in an environmental, economic, or energy-related field.

- Interest in energy efficiency and the utility sector.
- Comfort working with qualitative and quantitative data.
- Experience with data entry and manipulation.
- Robust research, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to document procedures and provide feedback to improve processes.
- Familiarity and confidence with business software applications, especially Microsoft Office including Excel.
- Familiarity with HTML or SQL is a plus but not required.
A little about E Source
Utilities across the US and Canada face the same fundamental, day-to-day challenges: to ensure reliable service for every customer while maintaining and modernizing aging distribution networks and meeting regulatory requirements—all while keeping rates affordable. At the same time, climate change has created a common, universal call to action: to reduce our carbon impact, improve our environment, and ensure the prosperity of future generations.
At E Source, we’re dedicated to helping every utility become a Sustainable Utility. That means doing the hard work it takes to achieve goals that often seem at odds with one another:
- Environmental responsibility: Decarbonizing operations, reducing emissions, eliminating water leaks, and finding efficiencies
- Reliability: Providing safe, continuous, and consistent service in the face of increasing volatility caused by climate change, including extreme weather, drought, and fire
- Equity: Making services and programs truly available to all, especially low- and moderate-income residential customers and small and midsize businesses who are often disproportionately impacted by societal events
- Financial stability: Ensuring a bottom line that affords capital and operational expenditures while enabling innovation and giving back to our communities
E Source blends industry-leading research, predictive data science, and solution services to help utilities make better decisions to serve their customers, their bottom line, and our planet. With a commitment to practical innovation, we use more than three decades of utility-focused experience and our unique solution set to help our clients become a Sustainable Utility.
This is a temporary six-month position with the option to extend the internship. You’ll work up to 20 hours per week at a rate of $15.00 per hour. Exact dates and hours are flexible based on your schedule.
This role will be 100% remote.
