Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer - X-Lab to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U. S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives.
C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.
Essential Functions:
• This position will focus on the integration of the R&D systems into C2BMC and will contribute to other ongoing X-Lab projects as needed
• This includes the assessment on how C2BMC prototype systems perform, integrating source tracks into the prototype and assessing track processing results, generating and assessing concurrent radar and sensor tracks during M&S and live flight test events, and enhancing experimental prototypes based on results of these activities
• The Software Engineer will apply these results to identify and work to enhance C2BMC for future operations
• Assist with planning, scheduling and development of verification analysis tools
• Coordinate, develop and maintain analysis and test tracking tools
• Ensure proper backup/archiving of test products and analysis datasets
• Develop and maintain analysis tools in accordance with requirements provided by the test analysts including Excel-based tools (VBA) Java-based tools
Basic Qualifications:
Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
• Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years experience, or a PhD and 1 years of experience.; or 9 years' experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
• Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start; with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) security clearance.
• Basic Systems Engineering understanding to drive software design
• Software development with Java (or other object-oriented language)
• Object-Oriented development principles and patterns
• Generate detailed and repeatable tests
• Must possess an understanding of Agile software development processes and principles and be able to communicate the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and system users
• Experience with the Linux environment
• Experience with using and maintaining relational databases
• Experience in the use of software test and analysis tools
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with other object oriented software such as Python, C++/C#
• Bash or similar scripting experience
• Use of spreadsheets for data analysis and associated tools
• Development of software test and analysis tools
• Development and automation of data management processes and tools
• Security+ certification
• Top Secret/SCI at the time of application.
Salary Range: $100,300 - $150,500
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
