Summary

This position is located in the Phoenix Indian Medical Center, Division of Quality, Department of Healthcare Risk & Patient Safety in Phoenix, AZ. The main function of the Patient Safety Coordinator is to support the Patient Safety Program and coordinate efforts to assess the culture of safety at PIMC and to proactively mitigate risk of harm to patients in coordinated efforts throughout PIMC's clinical and non-clinical departments.

Duties

  • Incumbent is responsible for the development, administration, evaluation and documentation of allpatient safety risk activities for the PIMC.
  • In collaboration with the Patient Safety Program Manager, coordinates aspects of the organization-wide annual patient safety risk assessment based on culture of safety survey results, analysis of patient safety reports, targeted proactive risk assessments, and tracer activity findings.
  • Traces clinical and non-clinical processes and systems throughout PIMC to identify potential risks to patient safety, areas of non-compliance to regulatory and accreditation standards, and opportunities to improve. Stays current on industry best practices to improve the patient safety program and promote a culture of safety.
  • When sentinel events are identified, sends program recommendations up the chain of command to seek executivesupport to have a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) chartered. May be selected as a subject matter expert on conducting PRAs and RCAs, often serving on the PRA or RCA team supporting the team lead.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Education:A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the , , , or an accrediting body recognized by the at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GS-11:
  • One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Knowledge of professional nursing principles and procedure and extended clinical experience and training to apply in patient safety practices, including the identification and reporting of adverse events. Has familiarity with operational practices and risks within the clinical setting. Familiar with developing strategies to prevent future occurrences and promote a culture of safety throughout the hospital.
OR
  • PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
