Scope: This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities essential to the mining function.
Where will you work: Onsite at 1361 Potash Mines Rd, Carlsbad, NM 88220
What will you do: Duties/Responsibilities: “We help the world grow the food it needs.” These duties include (but are not limited to): repair of underground face equipment mechanical/hydraulic/electrical problems; repair underground diesel equipment/volumetric skip loading equipment/pan feeder and vibro feeder equipment/belt pulleys, drive motors, gear units, and hydraulic take-up systems; service and perform preventive maintenance on underground face equipment; perform essential tasks related to electrical resistance welding and oxy-ace cutting. Overtime is required and is an essential job function. Must be willing to work overtime including call-outs. Must be able to use the necessary equipment and tools to perform the job duties.
Skills/Knowledge/Character: The candidate must be able to perform a variety of simple tasks, follow instruction, analyze, monitor and learn new procedures. Must be able to read, write, and should have a good understanding of basic mathematics. Must demonstrate skills in planning, scheduling and exercising independent judgment/decision making. Applicant must be able to distinguish colors.
Experience: This position requires a candidate with a strong background in heavy equipment maintenance, both mechanical and electrical; minimum high school diploma preferred with at least two (2) years’ experience in an industrial environment, preferably underground mining operations; post-secondary technical education may be substituted for one (1) year of experience; experience in continuous mechanized mining operations is preferred.
Physical Demands: Perform physical tasks in accordance with company policy, frequent stooping, bending, walking, swinging a sledge hammer, barring down, etc.
Safety: Must have a proven record of the ability to manage risk and hazards associated within the mine environment. Must wear all personal protective equipment and follow all safety rules and regulations in accomplishing the job functions. Candidate is also responsible for encouraging crew members’ compliance with all safety rules and regulations. Work record must reflect a high regard for and commitment to safety. Participate in Safe-Production Activities. Any employee with an active written safety discipline notice or any Final Written Warning of twelve (12) months or less from the date of issue will not be eligible to bid on job postings.
