The Manager, Research Operations will oversee research operations, leading continuous improvements in procedures, workflow, and policies. Partners with outsourcing agencies and ensures work product meets firm standards. Manages acquisitions and payment processing for both global research centers and attorney office collections. Participates in department budgeting and ensures adherence to firm requirements. Performs cataloging and manages Goodwin’s integrated library system, maintaining its integrity and consistent operation.

What You Will Do:

  • Develops, manages and maintains strategic vendor relationships to optimize service delivery and operational support. Oversees outsourced team members, providing guidance, instruction, and oversight in driving the completion of deliverables. Identifies opportunities to evaluate and implement updated standardized processes. Develops and documents procedures.

  • Manages, trains, and oversees the Research Operations team. Oversees day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality service delivery.

  • Responsible for implementation, maintenance, technical support and future development of Goodwin’s automated library system. This includes establishing and maintaining cataloging standards, developing procedures for claiming serials, generating reports and maintaining database to assure integrity of the system.

  • Partners with Sr. Manager, Research Systems & Applications to administer ResearchMonitor software, browser extensions and server upgrades prior to deployment.

  • Ensures seamless access to premium research databases by applying resource updates to ResearchMonitor. Troubleshoots access issues with vendors.

  • Prepares annual budget projections. Reviews monthly accounting statements to ensure payments are accurate. Assists with budget re-forecasting.

  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures relating to billing processes and use of financial systems. Acts as department liaison with Goodwin’s Finance team.

  • Maintains both attorney and research center resource collections ensuring resources are current and aligned with areas of practice.

  • Identifies opportunities to implement standardized operating procedures, where applicable. Develops and documents procedures.


Who You Are:

  • Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science; Master’s degree can be substituted for relevant experience in a special or academic library.
  • 3-5 years of electronic resource management and research operations functions of a private law firm, special library or academic law library preferred.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and applications.
  • Experience with EOS or other integrated library system preferred.
  • Experience with ResearchMonitor or other password maintenance, usage monitoring system preferred.
  • Ability to effectively manage work to high quality standards, with a meticulous eye for detail.
  • Accountable, assumes responsibility for quality and timeliness of their work.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Strong organizational skills: ability to prioritize and execute tasks, multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Within scope of position, works independently using sound judgment.
  • Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the firm in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with members of the Research Services Department, administrative staff and attorneys at the firm.
  • Technical aptitude with ability to quickly learn new systems and applications.
