Job Summary

Taubman College seeks an intermittent lecturer to teach an elective for students to learn technical skills related to front-end development, data visualization, mapping, and creative coding. The course will run during the winter semester 2025 (January-April), attended by students pursuing a bachelor of science in urban technology (approximately 20 students per course).

The Urban Technology Program is the first bachelor's-level degree in the world to focus on this subject. Our curriculum combines urbanism, technology, and design to help students build the know-how and determination to shape future urban environments. Students graduate with the ability to see cities through data, shape cities through code, and design positive change.

This course will provide students with an opportunity to learn the workflow of software development (i.e. version control), leverage knowledge of JavaScript fundamentals to learn new technologies of interest, and explore how to take a given dataset and bring it to life in interesting ways through data visualization.

Responsibilities*

  • Develop the syllabus during November-December 2024, in collaboration with the director of the Urban Technology Program
  • Teach the course in person from January-April 2025

Required Qualifications*

  • Master's degree or undergraduate degree in computer science, information science, or electrical engineering giving you a strong understanding of software development or equivalent professional experience 
  • Undergraduate teaching experience or demonstrated potential to be an engaging classroom instructor is a plus

The selection criteria include meeting the required qualifications listed above and the demonstrated potential to design and conduct energetic, active, collaborative learning experiences.
