Duties

Health Scientist Administrator, NIAAA, Division of Metabolism and Health Effects (DMHE) *Extramural*
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) seeks one exceptional candidate for extramural Health Scientist Administrator (Program Officer) vacancy in the Division of Metabolism and Health Effects (. DMHE supports research on health consequences of alcohol misuse, specifically alcohol-associated organ damage. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and guidance in basic and translational research to facilitate understanding, treatment, and prevention of alcohol-associated organ damage. Program officers advise the Institute on future scientific directions that encourage research in critical areas, develop targeted programs to foster high impact research, interact with investigators, assess the progress of awarded grants and contracts, and serve as an expert resource for the scientific community and the public.
Candidates with a background in physiology, cell biology, or molecular biology, along with an understanding of health, disease, and recovery processes are invited to apply. Specific expertise in the biology of any of the following are helpful: liver, pancreas, lung, the gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, or immune systems, the microbiome, cancer, aging, nutrition, or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. Experience with clinical trial design, statistics, bioinformatics, data science, genomics, or epigenetics would also be a plus. Physician Scientists and Basic Scientists are welcome to apply. Physicians with recent practice in internal medicine are also of interest.

Health Scientist Administrator, NIAAA, Medications Development Branch (MDB)*Extramural*
The National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) is seeking an exceptional candidate for the extramural Health Scientist Administrator (Program Officer) vacancy in the .
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and guidance in facilitating cutting-edge research that stimulates, develops, and supports pharmacotherapy for alcohol use disorder (AUD). Program Officers advise NIAAA on future scientific directions that encourage research in critical areas, develop targeted programs to foster innovative and high impact research, interact with investigators in diverse scientific areas, assess the progress of awarded grants and contracts, and serve as an expert resource for the scientific community and the public. This candidate will oversee a grant portfolio of pharmacotherapy studies for AUD and serve as a scientific collaborator on preclinical and phase 2 human clinical trials.
Desired experience includes one or more phases of medication development, such preclinical and human clinical trials. Understanding of basic scientific physiological processes and biomarkers underlying AUD is a plus as is experience administering grants. A background in medications development for AUD, other substance use disorders, mental health disorders, or a related area is desirable.

Health Scientist Administrator, NIAAA, Division of Neuroscience and Behavior (DNB) *Extramural*
NIAAA's seeks one Health Scientist Administrators to lead an extramural program on human neuroscience, neuroimaging, and adolescent development, as applied to understanding alcohol use disorder (AUD). Key duties involve advising on scientific directions, fostering innovative research, overseeing grants, and serving as an expert resource.
Candidates with a background in relevant brain and behavioral science disciplines are invited to apply.
The preferred candidate will lead an extramural grant program on basic and translational human neuroscience using functional and structural neuroimaging methods and analysis, and emerging neuromodulation technology to advance the understanding of AUD. The preferred candidate will have knowledge of and experience in current functional and structural neuroimaging methods and image analysis.
