Job Summary

We, at the University of Michigan's College of Engineering, are committed to creating an inclusive, respectful, and supportive environment for all members of our community. We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Disability Navigator, a role fundamental to this commitment. This is a 2-year term limited pilot role with potential for permanent employment.

As a Disability Navigator, your responsibility will be to provide support for employees at Michigan Engineering who encounter disability-related barriers within the college, including faculty, staff, and post-doctoral fellows, as well as undergraduate and graduate student employees. You will connect people with the services they need, maintain confidentiality, and keep accurate records of the disability services offered. As a Disability Navigator, you will help foster a culture of accessibility and work with individuals and units around the College and University to coordinate services.

As part of the Office of Culture, Community and Equity team you will report to the Program Director of Culture, Grants and Advancement. You will bring your expertise as it relates to disabilities and accessibility, which may include employment, academia, public access, new technologies, and facilities. You will be an internal consultant to Michigan Engineering to assist with access and accommodations under the ADA in the compliance areas and work closely with the central ADA team in ECRT and Michigan Engineering human resource personnel. You will be the go-to resource for employees in supporting their specific needs in a compassionate and confidential manner. You will work in a collegial environment, with rapidly emerging and time-sensitive issues, operating with high levels of autonomy.

Because this is a new role for Michigan Engineering, the individual hired for this role will likely spend their initial time building 1:1 relationships with college, campus and community partners; identifying needs and gaps for disabled individuals and communities; presenting to college and department leadership; identifying current processes and ideal state processes; and providing input on strategic goals for this line of service.
