This program immerses students into the daily operation of a contemporary media and technology company while working side-by-side with Comcast's top innovators. The student becomes an integral part of the Comcast team working on creative, innovative, and thought-provoking projects within various business units.
Organization & Team Overview
Comcast's Technology, Product & Experience (TPX) organization works at the intersection of media and technology. Our innovative teams are continually developing and delivering products that transform the customer experience. These products include customer premise equipment such as WIFI gateways, DOCSIS 4 modems, entertainment, and home security. Additionally, the products include network equipment from the connection to the home to optical transport that connects our data centers.
The X-Labs Test and Strategy team plays a critical role in TPX where both customer premise and network equipment come through our lab for physical and environmental (P&E) evaluation to ensure performance and reliability.
X-Labs engineers are positioned between the device manufacturers and Comcast hardware teams. We work with design and test engineers, product owners, field operations partners, and a diverse group of subject matter experts. The X-Labs team is a diverse collection of electrical engineers, physicists, network engineers, software programmers, and quality assurance engineers from all walks of life. We're a group of experienced technical minds who are at the front of validating products before deployment to our network and to our customers.
Role Description
As a Hardware Test and Validation Engineer Intern on the X-Labs Test and Strategy team, you will take part in testing of new technologies that Comcast is launching. The X-Labs Test and Strategy team is a small and fast-moving team of world-class experts that supports a very diverse range of products that span technical disciplines in RF, digital, high-speed data, IP, video, electromagnetic compatibility, mechanical, safety, etc. We are a team that thrives on big challenges, results, quality, and agility.
What are some interesting problems the student will work on?
In your role, you will bridge the gap between product development and deployment. Ensure that new devices perform reliably under environmental conditions that range from Arizona to Denver to Alaska. Identify defects, perform root cause analysis following the 8D process, develop Labview programs to automate testing and data collection. Work on energy solutions to help the company achieve carbon neutrality roles. Research power backup solutions that are more energy efficient and reliable for our outside plant.
Where can this student make an impact?
X-Labs is continuously working on new technologies and products to be deployed into Comcast. You will work with other senior engineers to guide you in your work. Our project management system shows how each of your assigned tasks contributes to the overall project completion. You will also participate in the review process to get an understanding of how products go from inception to reach the customer's homes.
Job Responsibilities

Preferred Skills
The following are skills that will be useful. As an intern, you are not required to be an expert on this. Instead, you will have an opportunity to develop and learn these skills:
Test automation with LabView
Circuit analysis, schematic and gerber review
Benchtop laboratory equipment such as programmable power supplies, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators, vector network analyzers
Preferred Majors: Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
Minimum Qualifications and Eligibility Requirements
Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree from a United States-based college or university
Rising Junior or Rising Senior only (must have a graduation date between Winter 2025- Spring 2027)
Returning to degree-program (for at least a semester) after the completion of the summer internship (meaning, student must be returning to school for Fall 2025 semester before graduating)
Available to work 40 hours per week over the course of the summer program- June 2 through August 15, 2025
Authorized to work in the United States with no current or future sponsorship needs
Available to report in-person to the work location on the job posting (unless virtual offering)

Salary:
Base Pay: $32.00
