Business reporter

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is looking for a hard-charging business reporter to cover a wide range of industries in our area. We want a reporter who is adept at quickly filing a breaking news story but is also able to spot the big picture, trends and deeper narratives. The beat includes a large coverage menu: Boeing; manufacturers such as General Motors and industrial giant Emerson; a vibrant health care industry; and the local tech industry. You might even dabble in TV industry news and the ever-changing media landscape.

This is an exciting chance to shape a beat and chase the stories that will most engage our audience. You'll have the freedom to follow your news instincts and craft dynamic stories, from breaking news to features to longform enterprise. You'll need to understand the basics of a business beat, but we're not looking for earnings report stories. We want you to get inside companies, understand the local scene and find topical and smart stories.

We want someone who can work across all of our digital platforms, navigate social media and understands the need to experiment with new story forms. You'll join a team that covers retail, development and related business topics.

The St. Louis region is a diverse area with an eclectic mix of industries. This is a chance to put your personal stamp on a busy, high-profile beat and make your mark with unique content.
