Full Job Description

The Grain Accounting Clerk plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely recording, processing, and reconciliation of all grain-related transactions. This includes managing contracts, creating and processing invoices, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining meticulous records. This role requires strong communication and collaboration with both internal teams and external customers, particularly farmers. The Grain Accounting Clerk also contributes to continuous process improvement and assists in training colleagues.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Contract Management and Shipment Recording:Accurately record truck, barge, and rail shipments, applying them to the correct contracts and preparing necessary documentation for settlement and invoicing.
  • Invoicing and Settlement:Generate tickets, apply them to contracts, and settle/invoice customers and vendors for truck/barge/rail shipments, ensuring seamless interface with terminal systems.
  • Reconciliation and Reporting:Perform daily balancing controls, prepare journal entries, reconcile interoffice transactions, and conduct month-end bushel balancing.
  • Dispute Resolution:Effectively manage and resolve customer disputes in a timely and professional manner.
  • Performance Analysis and Process Improvement:Analyze data, compare accounting results with commercial estimates, identify discrepancies, and propose process improvements.
  • Team Support and Training:Provide support, instruction, and training to peers on complex or non-routine tasks.

Knowledge and Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and other relevant software.
  • Ability to learn and utilize proprietary commercial systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree preferred.
  • 2+years of experience in accounting or office management or related field, preferably within the agricultural or grain industry.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work overtime as required to meet business demands.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Salary range $43,600-49,050. This role is also eligible to receive an annual incentive bonus.
