The Department of Engineering Technology at Old Dominion University invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MFET) to begin in Fall 2025. This is an annual 10-month tenure-track appointment that will begin July 25, 2025. The department is committed to recruiting, supporting, and fostering a diverse community of outstanding faculty, undergraduate students, and staff.
The primary responsibilities for this position are as follows:
- Teach undergraduate courses in the Manufacturing Engineering Technology program on campus and in distance education through ODU Global.
- Seek external funding opportunities to support scholarly activities.
- Produce high-quality research for publication in top-ranked journals.
- Contribute to systematic planning and development of the MFET program.
- Participate in the professional and intellectual community through professional and University service.
- Advise senior design capstone projects within their area of expertise.
- Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) among students, faculty, and staff.
Opportunities for teaching graduate courses in the candidate's area of expertise will also be available with other departments in the college.
Minimum Qualifications - Education or training:
- By May 2025, the candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field.

The Engineering Technology (ET) department comprises 17 faculty and about 740 undergraduate students. The Manufacturing Engineering Technology program has been recently established in the college with expected growth in enrollment through various pipelines with community colleges and partnerships with the manufacturing industry in the Commonwealth and beyond. Current research areas include engineering education, structural mechanics, next-generation communications systems, trustworthy AI, cyber-physical systems, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, and sustainability and resilience. The ET Department offers a B.S. in Engineering Technology degree with majors in Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology, as well as opportunities to select electives in multiple areas that prepare industry-ready graduates. The faculty conducts research in collaboration with the NSF, ONR, NASA, Virginia Space Grant Consortium, and industry. Active student chapters include SME, ASNE, SAE, ASHRAE, SWE, NSBE, and SHPE.
