Job Summary
The Assistant General Manager is responsible for assisting the General Manager in managing all day-to-day operating requirements of the retail store. These requirements will be satisfied in accordance with professional guidelines, operational protocols and quality standards established by the Company. Additionally, the Assistant Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all the regulatory requirements legislated by The State of New Jersey under the direction of the Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) are meticulously implemented, while ensuring financial profitability. AGM is a full-time role and requires nights, weekends and some holidays.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position shares responsibility in developing and maintaining a highly motivated team to deliver the best customer service and education in every interaction. The Assistant General Manager must maintain a professional appearance, organized work environment and clean facility appearance. The Assistant General Manager will provide support to all Team Members at their designated location. Under the direction of the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager will oversee staff-customer interaction, scheduling, staff morale, staff training, regulatory updates, Company news, transport coordination with the manufacturing facilities and sanitation. Under the direction of the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager will ensure that the Company’s diversity and inclusion standards are promoted and upheld in all supervisory decision making.
Duties/Responsibilities
Responsible for both opening and closing the store and retaining all necessary keys and codes to operate the store in absence and/or under the direction of the General Manager.
Must be dependable and reliable.
Ensure all safety and compliance regulations are followed by all staff.
Responsibilities in cash handling and product management and reconciliation.
Directly manage staff including assisting with employee scheduling, assigning workstations, helping with conflict resolution and scheduling and performing audits.
Hold “shift meetings” to inform staff of important daily information.
Assist with employee timesheets and accurate team timecards.
Active role in the interview process, training and all disciplinary action.
Prepare and deliver employee performance evaluations in conjunction with the General Manager.
Coach and empower employees.
Assists the General Manager in creation of, amendment of, and enforcement of all standard operation procedures as regulations require.
Maintain chain of command reporting of pertinent information directly to the General Manager.
Complies with all required timely reporting of all dispensary reportable activities to corresponding authorities.
Assists all other managers with responsibilities including inventory, inventory control procedures, and cash handling protocols.
Assists with the creation and management of social media posts.
Maintains accurate records of all business activities including cash reconciliations, sales records, and returns as required both by Sanctuary and the State of New Jersey.
Performs duties of all other positions below assistant manager; fills any staffing need when necessary.
Maintain store culture and overall customer satisfaction.
Attendance required at all announced manager meetings. This position may be required to hold meetings for other staff, create input for specials, events, pop ups and all-around education for staff and public
Required Skills/Abilities
Regulatory understanding of Medical and Adult-Use cannabis regulations in New Jersey.
Excellent communication skills both orally and written.
Must have skills in Canva, sheets and other social media platforms.
Ability to multi-task with effective time-management skills.
Performs well under pressure with a sense of urgency and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
POS software operational and reporting experience.
Must be no less than 21 years of age.
Must pass a criminal background check as required by the CCC and with no felony convictions.
Education and Experience
Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or Associates Degree Retail or Restaurant Management
Two years of managerial experience in the retail or food and beverage industry
Cash handling and POS cash drawer reconciliation experience
Opening and closing operational experience
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 20lbs minimum
Must be able to stand on feet for long periods of time
Minimum workday of 9 hours
