Full Job Description

What You'll Do

Personnel and Operations Management: 

  • Administrative and direct supervision, including hiring, termination and professional development responsibility for 9 hearing aid technicians at 5 different clinics. 
  • Responsible for the practice and billing procedures for hearing aids, cochlear implants, bone conduction devices and other hearing technologies. 
  • These programs include the 9 hearing aid techs as well as 35 Audiologists and 4 Speech Language Pathologists, for whom this role provides functional
  • operational oversight for their engagement in these programs. This includes the development and management of policies, guidelines, procedures and workflows. 
  • Perform conflict resolution, mentor and assist in patient complaint resolution. 
  • Directly responsible for all hearing aid forms, processes, and procedures.

Billing and Insurance: 

  • Works with contracting to improve reimbursement for hearing technologies services, and works with Revenue Cycle, Finance, and Audiology Leadership to review and manage device prices. 
  • Ensures that providers are utilizing the correct codes and that charges are compliant. 
  • Develops policies, processes and procedures for the management of write-offs and appeals and trains all scheduling staff on updates to workflows and processes in collaboration with Audiology Leadership.

Financial Management: 

  • Manages multiple hearing aid manufacturer and supply vendor accounts to ensure proper billing and payment as well as negotiate pricing. 
  • Responsible for purchase order number reconciliation for billing issues. 
  • Develops financial goals and overall financial plan/budget for hearing technologies program. 
  • Provides financial oversight for Hearing Technologies Program including managing write-offs, regularly reviewing program and relevant ACU financials, explain variances, manage expenses including adjusting prices and making recommendations on how to reduce expenses across the program to deliver on financial goals and efficiencies.

Strategic Development: 

  • Directly responsible for the development and ongoing management of hearing technologies program.
  •  Provides recommendations concerning the strategic direction, strategy, and vision of the program. 
  • Develops the program staffing requirements across all 5 sites and ensures the program meets its stated objectives. 
  • Develops goals and strategic priorities for Hearing Technologies Program in collaboration with Audiology Leadership. Analyzes, compares and evaluates various courses of action for program development, and in partnership with Audiology Leadership, makes independent decisions about future of program in an effort to achieve strategic direction and maximize financial returns of program.

Required Qualifications*

  • Associates degree in a related health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
  • Reasonable progressively responsible clinical experience is necessary.
  • Considerable knowledge of University and departmental policies, procedures and regulations is necessary
  • Strong analytical skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with data and make date-driven decisions. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clinicians. 
  • Knowledge of purchasing and billing practices.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's Degree. 
  • Previous experience working with Hearing Aids and Audiologists.
  • Knowledge of Michigan Medicine policies and procedures. 
  • Use of Epic electronic medical record system.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
