The University of Michigan's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), a unit within Student Life, is a multidisciplinary, multicultural, and multi-theoretical university counseling center that serves a diverse student body of over 48,000 students. CAPS strives to provide culturally humble clinical services, outreach programming, and training opportunities.
Approximately 5,000 students each year receive individual clinical services at CAPS.
Job Summary
This role primarily involves conducting clinical assessments/triage appointments and case management services for UM students in their first contact/appointment at CAPS. This is a 6-month temporary, part-time position. Starting date and hours are negotiable.
Responsibilities*
Clinical ? 85%
- Conduct initial clinical appointments per standard guidelines
- Make disposition decisions and connect / refer students to appropriate services on-campus and off-campus / resources / tracking and follow-up with clients
- Assess students with urgent / emergency needs and refer to the counselor on duty
- Facilitate brief treatment groups
- Document encounters per guidelines
Administrative ? 15%
- Attend center functions (clinical team meetings)
Required Qualifications*
- Masters in social work or masters in counseling or a related field
Or
- Limited or fully licensed as a social worker, or a licensed professional counselor in the State of Michigan
Desired Qualifications*
- Clinical experience with a college student/young adult population is required.
